UYWAFC 1st TEAM

After facing a difficult season and relegation, the UYWAFC 1st team is looking for a strong comeback in the 2019/20 season.

Following finishing 5th in the BUCS Northern 1A league, the 1st team are ready to come back stronger than ever for the upcoming season. Despite the disappointing results in the league table, the team thrived in the BUCS Football Trophy, reaching the quarter-finals. This formidable cup run included playing difficult opponents such as the University of Edinburgh and the University of Aberdeen. The team is hoping to continue on this winning streak for the 2019/20 season.

Second-year Harriet Chadwick will captain the team in the 2019/20 season with third-year, Hannah Coppillie, taking the vice-captaincy.

"UYWAFC is an inclusive, motivated group of girls who are individually, and collectively determined to succeed. We aim for victories as a team, as a family and as an entire club. Last year the 1s received a huge influx of freshers and the quick turnaround from the trials to the beginning of the season somewhat impacted us. However, a year on, through trust and practice, we have now built strong foundations that are prepared for what hopes to be a promising season for the club; we will work for each other, play for each other and aim for success for each other, and for UYWAFC. This season, following a disappointing relegation last year, the 1s are aiming for promotion to get us back into Northern 1A and as a club, I believe that we have the heart, determination, and courage to make huge things happen in the 2019/2020 season. The 1s also aim to at least reach the semi-finals in the cup again this season, and we are determined to make Roses 2020 another whitewash on Lancaster’s turf. This club is a place for making best friends, a place for playing the sport that you love and a place for success. We only set realistic goals and with the current talent at the club, and the exciting potential of further talent from trialists, the correct application from everyone at the club will ensure that UYWAFC is more than ready to smash the 2019/2020 season!" - Harriet Chadwick
