SOCIALS

Socials are a great way of getting involved with a sports club at university, especially for people who are unsure about playing competitively. Socials are for everyone as they offer the chance to meet and get to know people from the club. There are weekly themed Wednesday night socials where the team makes their way around a variety of bars and clubs in York, finishing the night in Salvation, with all of the other sports clubs at the university. While the Wednesday night social is a staple of UYWAFC, there are also many non-drinking socials and team bonding events like movie nights, team picnics, rounders, and pub quizzes that take place throughout the school year. Effah Achina and Sarah de la Mota are the Social Secretaries for the 2019/20 season and are sure to organise the best socials yet!

"Of course UYWAFC is about football, but there’s so much to the club; whether it’s the sense of community among the members, making the best mates, or last but not least the socials! Socials take place every Wednesday night where we have the most fun after working hard during the week at training and match day. It’s a great way to get to know everyone at the club and let loose. As Social Secs this year, Sarah and I want to make sure the non-drinking socials are just as valuable as our Wednesday nights. Going out for meals to help with team bonding or doing something more active such as bowling or an escape room! And we want to get this started from the beginning of the year to build a club which doesn’t just play well but knows each other well. After all, you play better when you feel comfortable and know people on a genuine level! We can’t wait to play some amazing football this year but also have the most fun we’ve ever had!" - Effah Achina.

Below is Effah and Sarah's election video which will give some more insight into their goals and aims for the upcoming football season!
