The second game of the season and it was a big one. York 1s travelled to Lancaster in the first clash of four games this season. Pressure is on as both sides are keen to set the benchmark high, a physical game lay ahead.
Kick- off and both teams press hard. Lancaster win a free kick, but it is well dealt with by York defence. York press and battle hard. Shots are close from Jasmine and Faye rattles the post. Skye also does her bit to keep Lancaster out, with a great save. Lancaster seemed to up the pressure, winning corner after corner, but no luck. York are solid and deal with the threat. Emma battles up the left wing upping the pressure. Their defence is rattled and is reluctant to relax on the ball.
Great forward and passing moves follow, with York winning the ball high and proving unstoppable at the back with some big tackles. The game was very physical, and decisions did not go York’s way. However, we persisted and it payed off. A composed shot from CDM Sara ,just outside the box , sees York go 1-0 up.
Half-time at Lancaster and we had them rattled. Lots of big tackles and determination from every single player meant that we had the edge and played the better football throughout the first half. Into the second half and York continue to push, with Jasmine testing their keeper and pressing their defence forcing errors. A goal was bound to come. An excellent ball threaded through by man of the match Faye and nicely put away by our Jasmino saw York go 2-0 up!
York win a free kick. Great forward movements come from excellent composure shown by the back four allowing us to play out from the back and overlap. Sonya puts an excellent cross in from the left side but no luck. Totally against the run of play York have a loss of concentration and this allows for a Lancaster wonder-strike. It manages to find the back of the net. Bringing them back into the game at 2-1. York continued to test their keeper and kept Lancaster out. York dig deep and fight hard in this physical game which was against 12 players at times! Skye pulled off some amazing game winning saves as York slip slightly. However, determined to seal the victory, York push on and have on last move up the pitch. Jasmine shows true commitment and rattles the Lancaster keeper in a 1v1 which stops the game for some time. The final few minutes passed, and the match turned tired and scrappy. Both teams fought and gave their all. Full time and York had beat Lancaster in front of their home crowd 2-1. Showing that most definitely roses are in fact, white.
