23/10/19: 2's vs Northumbria Cup Match

After a disappointing 6-0 loss away at Leeds the week before, the Super 2’s came back fighting and stronger than ever for the first cup match of the season. York completely dominated the first half, showcasing their strength with possession, despite the half ending with a 0-0 scoreline. Phoebe Munroe, Aimee Colbourne, Amy Barnett and Rebekah Maher were constantly linking up to create chance after to chance in the midfield, but the team just lacked composure to finish in the final 1/3. Northumbria scored first, early in the second half, and was honestly a flukey goal. Despite this, the 2’s pressed on, continuing to dominate the match. Then 15 minutes into the second half, our own Sports Pres, Maddi Cannell scored a beautiful goal in the top right corner! The goal created a surge of energy in the team, ruling Northumbria out of the game completely. A few minutes later, they won a free-kick just outside the box. Aimee Colbourne walks up to take the free-kick, strikes it beautifully, but a defender gets a touch on it, diverting the ball into the path of Rebekah Maher to score her first UYWAFC goal! This fantastic display proves to be extremely promising for the Super 2’s season.
